Greatest Hits of Spain Wine Tasting!
The Wines:
Isaac Fernandez Biutiful Cava Brut Nature NV: Blend of 80% Macabeo and 20% Chardonnay. Aged for 20+ months on the lees, this wine is a translucent yellow-gold. Lemon zest, quinine and ginger on the incisive, mineral-accented nose. Sharply focused and dry, lemon and green apple flavors, which deepen slowly on the back half. Finishes long and energetic, leaving subtle herb and floral notes behind. .
Pedralonga Serea Albarino 2024: The Serea bursts with notes of white flowers, citrus zest, grapefruit, nectarine, and sea breeze. Coupled with that are richer notes of mirabelle plum, apricots, and a textured, long finish.
Alvarez y Diez Mantel Verdejo 2024: This is quite complex aromatically and in terms of flavor, with a faint floral note, fruit that recalls multiple citrus fruits, and also an underlying tropical suggestion, along with accents of dried herbs and minerals.
Mokoroa Txakoli (Rose) 2024: Aromas of fresh strawberries, dewy roses, peach and salt. There's flavors of fresh picked raspberries and cranberries and lime blossoms. There are crunchy salt crystals on the finish.
Valderiz Valdehermoso Joven Tempranillo 2024: Youthful aromas of black fruits and dark plum are a touch jammy in front of a palate in which bright acidity gives this both teeth and energy. Spicy berry and dark plum flavors finish long but shallow.
Lopez de Heredia Vina Cubillo Crizanza 2017: Blend of Tempranillo, Garnacho, Mazuelo and Graciano. Aged for three years in American oak, followed by another two to three years in bottle, the resulting wine is fruit forward, but with very developed older-wine aromas of cherries and spices. This is old school Rioja winemaking in a glass.
Cost is $25/person. Tasting from 2-5pm.
